DYALEKT

Dyalekt is an MC/Actor/Playwright/Journalist from Philadelphia, PA. After graduating High School in St.Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Dyalekt moved to New York for college and stayed for Hip Hop. As an MC he has performed on stages throughout the nation, including Cincinattis Roxy, and, NYCs BB Kings. Film credits include the award-winning documentary "FREESTYLE: The Art of Rhyme." Dyalekt has coached a youth Slam Poetry team for New York Scores, an after school program that develops literacy through soccer and poetry. The associate artistic director of Smokin Word Productions has recently been providing workshops around the nation to help teachers use Hip Hop, as well as teachers natural performance abilities, to assist in teaching more effectively. He has also been an organizer for "Dbate" a Lincoln Douglas style debate that incorporates poetry for arguments and freestyle rhymes for rebuttals. As an actor, he has held leading roles in Miguel Pineros "Short Eyes", Claudia Alick's award winning "Six Hits", and Yolanda kae Wilkinson's "A Musing". Dyalekts one man show "Square Peg Syndrome" recently opened at Primary Stages Theatre, and will be touring internationally. The first play he wrote, Heir to the Throne, made him the youngest person to write and direct a piece for The Hip Hop Theatre Festival. Behind the stage, Dyalekt assisted with the stage management of the Hip Hop musical "History of the Word," and was the stage manager for Daniel Beattys "Trippin." As a member of Freestyle Union, he toured colleges and high schools promoting mental growth using Freestyle MCing as a foundation. Currently, Dyalekt is down with the Mindspray Crew, a group of dope MCs tearing up stages around the US. Alongside euphAmism, Mr. D-Y hosts a semi monthly show at the Knitting Factory called "Style Factory," which features the innovative freestyle competition "Whose Rhyme is it Anyway?"
