Kitega Community Center was established in March 2000 to cater for various problems in the community. Kitega Community Center started under the umbrella body Uganda Association for the Mentally Handicapped. In 2004 Kitega Community Center registered as an independent Non Governmental Organization. It is located in Kitega-Lugazi, in Mukono District.

The goal of Kitega Community Center is to work for the social uplifting of children with special education needs, people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS as well as those adversely affected by poverty, in a bid to improve their standards of living. The project is engaged in the capacity building and economic empowerment of the registered members so as to improve their standards of living. It continues to depend entirely on donor funding for the time being so as to enable it achieve the desired goals and to ensure sustainability. Given time, the project is expected to have a some income generating activities and will therefore not entirely depend on donor funding.

What we do .At Kitega Community Center currently we offer literacy and vocational training programs for the children with special education needs and we intend to expand in terms of increasing programs for people infected/affected by HIV/AIDS and the community environment including the people living within the area in which the center is located, with the aim of economic empowerment.

Mission:  Kitega Community Center aims at attaining a good standard of living for the disabled children and the people in the areas surrounding the project base in order to promote their well-being and development through disease prevention, care/support, poverty alleviation, job creation and economic empowerment enabling the disabled to be independent in their society.

Vision: Our vision is to spearhead the fight against the effects of disabilities, HIV/AIDS and poverty by facilitating the flow of strategic information and resources for the benefit of the entire community.

"SMALL ENOUGH TO CARE"

Kitega Community Center is a center for Literacy and vocational training programs for children with special education needs since the month March 2000 by Rev. Canon Silas Musoke.  Due to the dynamic social environment of Kitega in recent times we have expanded to include programs for people infected/affected by HIV/AIDS, Poverty Alleviation and Environment at large with the aim of economic empowerment as the solution of social problems affecting people in the Area.

Kitega is a small village near Lugazi Town in Uganda. Lugazi town is situated 47km East of Kampala along Kampala-Jinja highway in Mukono District. Its a beautiful scenery with various hills covered by green vegetation and forests. This is an area with extensive commercial plantations of Sugar cane and Tea as well as coffee but to a lesser scale. The people in the area are largely small scale subsistent farmers and they are of varied ethnical backgrounds many of whom come to the area because employment opportunities on the plantations and various industrial establishments in the neighboring area.

There are various small scale industrial establishments and 5 well established industries located in the area and these are: Lugazi Sugar Corporation of Uganda Ltd., Cable Corporation of Uganda Ltd., UGMA Engineering Corporation of Uganda Ltd. Uganda Horticultural Company, Uganda Tea Corporation Company.

The above industries are a major source of employment hence livelihood for the people of Kitega and Lugazi at large. SCOUL also offers education, health sanitation and housing facilities in its labour camps.  This kind of environment has created various social consequences in the area among which is the issue of catering for the disabled in the community, HIV Aids, Poverty among other issues.

It was upon such factors that our founder and current Rev. Canon Silas Musoke took up the initiative under Kitega Community Center to cater for the needs of Children with disability and to be part of the national wide awareness programs on HIV Aids plus Poverty alleviation in this area.
